Working Dogo Canario Alliance Temperament Test Program

The Working Dogo Canario Alliance was formed by myself (Jen Chandler) and Randy Green as an outlet to test the temperament of the Presa Canario. I wrote the test in a three tier format. The first level to test basically green dogs, the other two levels to test both the natural drives and courage of the dog and the training/control of the dog.

Working Dogo Canario Alliance is available for holding our temperament testing at any event around the country provided the interest is high enough and participation is guaranteed.

The only certified judges allowed to perform these tests are myself (Jen Chandler) and Randy Green. If you're at an event where these tests are being given and neither of us are there, you are not at an officially sanctioned CCF Testing Event and your titles will not be recognized.

Certificado del Caracter Funcional (CCF I)

-Dog must be a minimum of 12 months old.

In order to be awarded CCF 1, the dog subjected to the following exercises must obtain favorable results.

Behavior towards inoffensive strangers

The dog must remain calm facing inoffensive persons.
On indication of the judge, the handler walks with the dog on loose leash and without giving orders. The dog must remain calm while crossing paths of inoffensive strangers and while strangers approach or are being approached by the handler to shake hands, to ask information etc. The dog does not have to be touched. This exercise must be given the greatest possible care that it is done as natural as possible.

Indifference to gun shot

This exercise is executed with the dog on a training leash of approximately 6' (2 m) in length and 2 gun shots (caliber 6) fired with nearly immediate succession at a distance of approximately 20 m. Trained sport dogs may react according to their training.

Defense of the handler

This exercise is executed with the dog tied to a sturdy object approximately 8 feet in front of the tie point. The handler must stand at least 4 feet behind the dog and not move.

The decoy is armed with a flexible stick and placed in a blind or hiding place prepared for the event. The handler proceeds immediately after the instruction of the judge, holding the dog on leash (approx. 2-3m)

On indication from the judge, decoy exits from his hiding place threatening handler and dog. The handler remains stay put. Facing the threats, he leaves a slack leash, incites and indicates support to the dog for its reaction against the aggressor. The aggressor will stay threatening in the dogs comfort zone (1m away) for at least 10 seconds.

The dog must readily react to defend the handler energetically. No bite will be given in this level of testing.

The exercise is interrupted on the indication of the judge at the time when the dog, with quick reaction, has demonstrated its real attitude in defense.

The dog who moves behind the point at which the handler is standing,  demonstrates indifference, shyness or manifest fear will not be approved.

Scoring: Pass or Fail

All Temperament Tests will be video taped for club purposes. No video will be viewed or distributed in ANY form without the express permission or request of the dogs owner.
